A "maker" of media...I guess you could say that I've contributed to the world of "media-making", but only in small-scale, personal ways: I used to enjoy painting when I was younger, maybe made a total of eight, um..masterpieces...I currently participate in the forms of new media which both bless and plague my generation, social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, though I can't claim any responsibility for their creation...and I've dabbled in video editing on amateur material (travel albums and slideshows, home videos) using amateur software (iMovie). As for my future media-making endeavors, film has long been a passion of mine, and I do hope to eventually write and/or produce movies and television. Not necessarily any particular type or genre, although I am partial to comedies- I believe laughter has the power to transport us to better and happier states of being, to alleviate the pain and pressure and make room for appreciation of the moments in our lives which bring us joy. The sillier, the better. I love original comedy television series, such as Arrested Development, 30 Rock, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Parks and Recreation, and The Office, as well as comedy icons like Jon Stewart, Conan O’Brien, Ellen DeGeneres and Tina Fey. And then there’s the way that a dramatic movie can really reach to your core and challenge your mind, can make you feel just as deeply as if it were your own life on the screen. I think what is visual is visceral. I have always been a visual person, and my passion for film grew out of that. As a medium, it is the one that has the greatest affect on me. In the near future I hope to contribute my own product to the film world and have an effect on it in return.
Hello Sophia,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your interests and sources of inspiration. I like the line:
“I believe laughter has the power to transport us to better and happier states of being, to alleviate the pain and pressure and make room for appreciation of the moments in our lives which bring us joy.”
I also like your appreciation for humor. I often find that irony can be used as a very sharp tool to express critical thoughts. Why do you think is this so? Can you come up with examples of thought-provoking humor?
Feel free to include photos, quotes, and links to other texts, video clips and blogs that inspired you.
Best,
Martyna
I agree that laughter is important for one's mind state. I enjoy Tina Fey's 30 Rock
